Hello! My name is Chayla Heryford. I graduated from the University of Utah in 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I student taught in a sixth grade class at Washington Elementary, and began teaching at Canyon Rim Academy in the fall of 2020.
I am a California native, but moved to Utah in 2016, when I got accepted into the University of Utah. While in college, I visited CRA to observe the fantastic teaching happening throughout the school, and I even had a chance to substitute teach at CRA before becoming a full time member of the teaching team! I always felt the warmth and dedication in our school and I have been so grateful to be part of the CRA family.
Being a teacher is something I am very proud of, because I know the impact a good teacher can have on a child. As a child, there were many times I depended on a warm and understanding classroom environment to help me feel "seen" and safe. I know that it is my job to not only teach the required academics but to also foster an environment where children feel appreciated, uplifted, and safe. When I'm not teaching I love to spend time with my husband, daughter, and dog! I love to camp, fish, wakeboard, and listen to music. As well as cook, bake, and do DIY projects.
