Hello! My name is Abby Petersen and I am so excited to be teaching First Grade at Canyon Rim Academy!
I graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Education with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Arts Education - Fine Arts through the University of Utah. I am so passionate about the arts, and believe that arts integration can greatly enhance student learning and engagement.
This year in First Grade we will strengthen our reading fluency and comprehension, critical thinking skills, and self-efficacy in English Language Arts (reading and writing), mathematics, science, and social studies. As my teaching philosophy is centered on arts integration, our classroom will be filled with hands-on learning experiences using music, visual arts, theatre/drama, and dance.
Outside of teaching I love reading, music, and cloud watching. My husband Garrett and I enjoy hiking, camping, canyon drives, and playing badminton.
I am so excited to learn and grow with my students this year!
