Bldg. Dev.

If you've been with Canyon Rim Academy for the past few years, a school rebuild has been a topic of discussion for 10 plus years.  Ongoing and updated information about the rebuild can be found here and will be changed from time to time as plans are updated.  With initial input from CRA's Board of Trustees and staff, we have a beginning point.

Dear Canyon Rim Stakeholders,

In 2014, Canyon Rim Academy purchased its school building from Granite School District with the knowledge that a major upgrade to the facility was desired but not financially feasible at that time. For many years the long term strategic planning committee has been working toward solutions to address the aging building. They have been evaluating renovation versus rebuild options and reviewing funding alternatives.

In 2023 the efforts of the committee accelerated and a formal RFP was conducted to find appropriate expertise to further the goal of improving the building. With the expertise of Odyssey Partners, who focus on charter school development, and Babcock Design, an architectural group with a deep background in designing for charter schools, it was determined that renovation is not feasible and schematic level site plans were developed for a new building.

The next big hurdle that exists in upgrading the building is financing. Recent anticipated fluctuations in interest rates and construction costs prompted the long range planning committee to reevaluate, and in August the Board of Trustees authorized the committee to move forward on the next phase of design in order to get firm pricing and determine a realistic time frame for a new building.

The prospect of a building upgrade is exciting, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be completed in the months ahead before a project can be approved or a timeline can be determined. In an effort to avoid the spread of misinformation and to consolidate the progress of the long term strategic planning committee, a page titled Bldg Dev on the school website has been created. In the coming weeks this page will be populated with information and updated as new information becomes available.

The Board of Trustees is encouraged by the progress of the long term strategic planning committee and anticipates additional information will be available and communicated in the first quarter of next year. For monthly updates, you can listen to the board meetings live, in person or virtually, or review the meeting minutes and recordings at your convenience. The board meeting calendar is available on the website as is access to all board meeting minutes.
