Enrollment

Canyon Rim Academy is a public charter school and part of the State of Utah public education system. It is open to all students without discrimination. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of the school or its' programs, classes or grade levels, then those to be admitted are chosen at random in a lottery process.

To be included in our lottery process, parents of prospective students must fill out an application for enrollment. Please visit the Applications page for more information.

New students may be enrolled at any time during the school year if space in a particular grade becomes available. 

Students that are currently enrolled do not have to reapply each year. All students enrolled during the previous school year are ensured a position at Canyon Rim Academy the following year.

Enrollment Preferences

In accordance with Law and the Canyon Rim Academy charter authorized by the Utah State Board of Education, the following categories receive an enrollment preference:

  1. Students currently enrolled at Canyon Rim Academy.
  2. Siblings of students enrolled at Canyon Rim Academy.
  3. Children of employees of Canyon Rim Academy.
  4. Students living within a half mile radius of Canyon Rim Academy.
  5. Students living within a two mile radius of Canyon Rim Academy.
  6. Students living outside the two mile radius of Canyon Rim Academy.

At the conclusion of each application period, applicants will be lotterized separately within each of these categories.  No applicants are ensured enrollment, but are invited in order of preference as space becomes available in the respective grades. 

Lottery Process

We invite students to attend Canyon Rim Academy as positions become available, based on the enrollment preferences listed above. The number invited for each grade differs from year to year. Once we know how many students will not be returning, we can begin inviting new students to attend. These invitations will begin in March and we will continue to invite students up until school begins in the fall on an "as needed" basis.

Invitation to Register

If your child is invited in the lottery, YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED BY EMAIL. Upon receiving an email invitation, you will need to respond to Canyon Rim Academy within a specified period of time. The email will indicate a deadline stating when your response is due. A "Registration Packet" will be attached to the email. If you wish to accept the invitation to attend Canyon Rim Academy, you must:

  1. Print off and fill out the Registration Packet
  2. Include the necessary documents listed in the packet
  3. Return the Registration Packet and required documents to Canyon Rim Academy by the posted deadline.
  4. Supply a proof of address/residence, such as a utility bill, bank statement, etc. 

Returning the Registration Packet

If you do not respond by the deadline given, you will forfeit the invitation and the invitation will be extended to another lottery applicant. A prospective student's enrollment is not complete until this paperwork is properly filled out and returned to the front office. Returning the Registration Packet completes your acceptance to attend Canyon Rim Academy.   When turning in your registration packet, proof of residence (utility bill, etc.) will be required to verify your home address.
