Welcome to Canyon Rim Academy! My name is Clara Buchanan and I am so happy to be your Kindergarten teacher!
I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Utah in Elementary Education and Music - Harp Performance. Before teaching Kindergarten, I student taught in a Gifted Kindergarten classroom and was a teacher at Palmer Preschool. Learning is so important to me and I am currently working on my Master's in Fine Arts Teaching. I am certified through the University of Utah Reading Clinic in the Next Steps and Higher Steps Reading programs and also have an ESL endorsement.
I play the harp, piano, guitar, flute, and ukulele, and I love to sing! I enjoy creating and teach art classes in the summer. I was the co-director and choreographer for the Canyon Rim musicals "The Lion King" and "Frozen," and also co-directed a production of "The Lion King" at Oakridge Elementary.
Kindergarten is such an important year! We will learn so many new concepts and skills that will help us become active, independent, and creative thinkers. We will read stories, problem-solve, and build a strong foundation so students gain a love of learning to last a lifetime.
Our classroom allows discovery through active hands-on exploration as our math, science, social studies, and language arts curriculum is enriched with music, art, movement, and literature. I strive to build each child's self-esteem and confidence as they stretch to try new things in an engaging, positive, safe, and joyful environment.
