Leslie Evans

Special Education Director

My name is Leslie Evans and I am happy to be at Canyon Rim Academy. As a 15 year veteran of public education service in Utah, I am passionate about teaching, learning and in continuing the reputation of excellence Canyon Rim has created in such a short time.

After earning a Bachelor's Degree in English from Westminster College in 1998, I became a substitute teacher in order to pay the bills, while I prepared for a career in Law. My experiences in those classrooms inspired me to earn a Masters and State licensure in Special Education, a field full of legal policies and challenges. I have served on district special education improvement committees, as chair of my department, grade-level team-leader and as a representative on school improvement councils.

After successfully serving four rewarding years as a special education teacher to some of Salt Lake City's most diverse communities, I accepted an administrative position at a local charter school, Legacy Preparatory Academy (LPA). After much deliberation, I left the classroom in an effort to affect broader change in students' as well as teachers' lives. While I am sincerely proud of the student and teacher growth I have helped to foster at LPA, I feel confident that I can, as a collaborative team-member, affect even greater growth and student progress in this new opportunity.

I come to Canyon Rim Academy with a great affinity for CRA's mission, philosophy and vision for students, teachers, staff and families. I see myself as a lifelong learner and look forward to my own professional and personal growth at CRA.

My husband, two beautiful children, two energetic Border Collies and I live in Canyon Rim. We are devoted to this community and look forward to participating in the collective effort to make CRA a world-class environment for learning and teaching.
